Dr Carolyn Tyson

Consultant Clinical Psychologist

Dr Carolyn Tyson is an HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist providing medico-legal assessments and therapeutic work in the areas of medical negligence, personal injury, adult mental health, and cognitive impairment.  Dr Tyson has been a leading provider of medico-legal services in the south west of England and beyond since 2009 including many high profile, high value claims.

 

Dr Tyson undertakes regular medical-legal assessments for the Civil, Criminal, and Family Courts. Dr Tyson undertakes approximately 30 reports for the Courts per annum (Civil Court breakdown: Claimant: 70%, Joint: 10%, Defendant: 20%).

Dr Tyson is currently instructed as Medical Expert Panel Member via Dentons on behalf of The Department of Business and Trade (DBT) in the ongoing compensation claims arising from the GPO sub postmasters/Horizon case.

 

Dr Tyson’s particular areas of expertise and interest include psychological trauma - including the psychological impact of medical negligence (including neonatal death),  work-related accidents and stress,  assaults or threat to personal safety (including acts of terrorism), cosmetic and dental surgery. 

 

Dr Tyson provides expert witness assessments including adult psychological state, cognitive functioning, mental capacity, and fitness to plead.

 

Dr Tyson has experience of giving oral evidence in Court.   

 

Dr Tyson specialises in working with, and treating, severe and enduring mental health difficulties, chronic pain, psychological trauma, work-related stress, and personality difficulties.

Dr Tyson is experienced in working with clients with Learning Disabilities and visual and auditory difficulties, and working via interpreters (including foreign language and British Sign Language).

 

Dr Tyson is fully  GDPR and ICO compliant.

Dr Tyson is also a trained Civil Mediator.
